Why I Choose English as My Major

 To tell the truth, before I saw the topic, I have never thought about this problem that why I chose English as my major.If you asked me this question in the past, I would tell you"I don't know, I just chose it, no reason, that's all".But after these days' thinking, I found there are many reasons about why I chose English as my major.

   When I was puzzled by what major to choose, my parents gave me three choices which are to be a doctor, to be a teacher, or to be an English major.The former two are what I badly hated, so I chose English.My parents certainly supported me.They said that I can get more opportunities when I choose jobs after graduating from the university.In addition, in their opinions, girls can become more perfect by learning English.In fact, I like economy and administration.But my parents think it so difficult for girls, and they don't want me to be too tired.I know they are right and understand them so much.So I think this is a reason why I chose English as my major.

   Then, personally speaking, I still insist on my dream about being a manager of the administration in foreign-owned company.Learning English can help me realize the dream.Today, the most common language of international communication is English.In my opinion, I think English as an essential tool of communication or cooperation.If I know English very much and can speak English fluently, I can talk with foreigners without any difficulty.Languages are symbols of countries' culture.Through them,we can know about the ways of foreign people's speaking and acting,we can know what their favors and taboos are,and we can know how to behave well enough in front of them to get along with them in a perfect way.And these above will help us get more opportunities when working.

   What's more, interest is the best teacher of everything.I'm such a stubborn girl that nobody can force me to do what I don't like.To be honest, I'm an English lover.I enjoy listening to English songs, watching American movies and reading books written by foreign writers.Studying English can help us enlarge our horizon and increase our knowledges because we can get more information about the foreign world.It can help us follow foreign television programs and understanding sensible films in a better way.It can bring us much more fun.In conclusion for these, I chose English for relaxation.

   There is another reason for my choice.It is that I want to prove myself and develop the quality of never giving up.Learning English well is a hard work for most of us.Maybe we can get high scores in exams,but we can't pronounce well even we dare not to speak English;maybe we can read English passages good enough,but we don't know what to say when talking with others or how to communicate with others;maybe we matter the everything we should matter,but we still be looked down by others just because our ways of thinking are so different from them ,even are stupid in their eyes.As a Chinese, as a student in Xiangtan University, I have the duty to make all of the "maybe" disappear.Although it is a great challenge for me, I like it and I believe I can defeat it.The courage and confidence of overcome difficulty may benefit throughout my life.

Last but not least, English is not only a language, but also a kind of culture and spirit.After taking the class given by the teacher of Mrs.Jiang, I learned the importance of comparison.Only by comparing with other countries' history and cultures can we know the gap between our nations and there's.But the basic way to know their culture is learning English.To develop our countries better and better, learning foreign history and culture is a must.

   Based on these reasons above, I chose English as my major, and I believe my choice is so right that I won't be regretful forever.
