Evaluation of Integrated Language Skills

Integrated Language Skills are a necessary course for the English major students, it is also an intensive reading textbook, which asks us to solve out the difficulties and understand the text by ourselves. Our teacher contributes himself to help us to make progress.

Integrated Language Skills 4 include sixteen units, and we have studied six units. This book is propitious to English major grade two college students, in addition its content has two parts:texts and after-class exercises. As for the first part, from the language point of view, the linguistics of each text is not only normative but also brilliant, which is fit to read, imitate and discuss. From the content point of view, this book pays attention to the humanistic value and cultural connotations, pay attention to its impacts on students. As for the second part, the exercises of this book have been written tightly surround the texts, and the exercises are divided into two parts:preview and review. The question types include:oral, vocabulary, grammar, writing and so on. This book aims to improve our communicative ability and in favor of allowing full play to our initiative.

In order to make us understand the texts better, the professor takes mainly three steps. First of all, we are divided into some groups to discuss the main idea of the text, and then divide the text into some paragraphs after we discussed.There is another assignment for each group that analyzes linguistic characteristics. Finally make a summary directed against the text. Then second two person of each group prepare to try his best to translate each sentence of the text, all of us will close the books, the one of the groups will speak Chinese, and another one of the group has no choice but English, they will translate sentence by sentence. Lastly, we will be given a homework that is to do after-school exercises, which closely surround the text, and its importance is equal to as much as the text, therefore doing exercises is essential for us.

What's more, the professor Li, our teacher, has rich teaching experience whose oral English is also excellent. In addition, he always takes responsibility for us. We are so luckily that has a splendid teacher.

Many people have said that the master the knowledge of this book is so difficult that it is just like ascending a mountain. To be frank, it is hard for us to grasp it well, but I won't give up. As far as I am concerned, as long as we work hard and adhere to it, we will make it sooner or later. Just as the saying goes: Where there is a will, there is a way.
