  Should  we  read  selectively  or  extensively?There  are  two  different  views  about  it.

  Some  people  think  that  we  should  read  selectively.They  hold  the  opinion  that  books  should  be  read  only  in  parts,and  if  we  choose  books  to  read,we  should  make  those  books  chewed  and  digested.

  Others  think  that  we  should  read  extensively.In  their  opinion,different  books  have  different  uses.For  example,histories  make  men  wise,poets  witty,the  mathematics  subtle,moral  grave.We  can  be  excellent  only  by  reading  variety  of  books.

  In  my  view,we  shou  read  extensively.We  should  know  that  studies  serve  for  delight,for  ornament,and  for  ability.Their  chief  use  for  delight,is  in  privateness  and  retiring;for  ornament,is  in  discourse;and  for  ability,is  in  the  judgement  and  disposition  of  business.So  we  should  read  books  wholly,but  not  curiously.So  reading  extensively  is  the  best  choice.
